New Used Shiny Part

Duffy picked up a new shiny intake built specifically for our car.

He was able to get it for $25 including shipping costs so can't really beat that. Plus it will allow us to get rid of the stock one that I've hated so much ever since we first went to see the car.

It sounds like someone might also be parting out an 88 eurosport in Peoria since he can't get it titled. If he does part it out might see if I can't get the springs for a decent deal and move up from fe1 (grandma shocks) to fe3(not just sport suspension but Eurosport suspension.)

One more chance to catch us on speed

Saturday at 7:00am ET will be the last chance to catch us on speed well until they run it in reruns. If you can't watch it on tv here it is on youtube.

Part 1

Part 2

We should also soon have updates on the car. Someone has been shopping for some cheap used Go Fast Parts, although I think we should start focusing on some Go Parts.

Leaf Blower Forced Induction 2 Electric Boogaloo

I was looking at the blog stats and realized that by far the most popular post, by almost 200 views more than the next one, was Leaf Blower Forced Induction?. That post basically shows what some people had done with a leaf blower and some basic ideas. The number of views got me thinking of how to actually make it work. So I came up with this diagram

First I figured running it all the time would probably be bad for a non forced induction engine, so I thought the best would be to put it on a button so that the driver could run it for short periods of time when they would need a bit extra power. Plus we would then get a Turbo Boost Button, who wouldn't want that.

Secondly from what I've read with the electric super chargers is that a lot of them actually block more area than adding it. So to get around that I decided to have it separate from the stock air intake. To try and keep air from going the wrong direction it would be best to have a flap that the leaf blower could force open. Have it set on a spring and it would automatically close when you aren't using the leaf blower. I also added a filter to the air intake of the leaf blower since it would merge to the air intake after the stock filter location.

There are 2 things that I think could be added to increase reliability. First would be to control the voltage the leaf blower as a method of managing boost. It could probably be done with a simple dimmer switch so you can modify it easily, but you would probably want the control somewhere the drivers can't get to it while driving or they might keep bumping it up to pass people until its stuck at full tilt. The other thing would be to insert an intercooler between the leaf blower and the stock intake. Compressing the air will increase the temperature of the air, and one of the things that kills ghettocharged engines is the increase in temp.

Snow Shovel vs Race Car 2 : SNOWMAGEDON EDITION

I really wasn't planning on having a rematch but since Chicago was hit by the Blizzaster and I was going to be spending some time shoveling, I figured I might as well do something with it.

For those not around here, Tuesday Febuary 1st the Chicago Area was hit by Thundersnow. Sadly this is not the name of a new Bond Film. It is instead a snow storm with Thunder and Lightening. No Bond film but still pretty cool to watch.

So same rules as last time. I shovel while the Cutlass Ciera sits there idling. Since there was a lot more snow after the Snowpocalypse instead of shoveling the whole driveway I was just going to dig out a path for the Leggy to get out, enough snow so its under the rear bumper. Also I had dug out the night before but Snowapalooza made it look like I really didn't look like I did. To make up for this a bit I was technically working so I would have to go in every once in a while for work stuff.

So here is the results.

Lots of work and by how the one side seems to be crooked I mutst have been drunk. Also I needed to force my way through it a bit still since I didn't leave enough room for me to actually turn the car into the street.

The car did pretty much the exact same thing it did before. Seems like amount of snow doesn't really effect things. With more snow you see a nice little ring effect. The extra time also seems to allow it to evaporate the water.

As it sits currently I don't think this is a successful way to remove snow. Maybe if I could attach the tail pipe to a hose and use the hose to melt the snow.
